Frequently Asked Questions
What is green dry cleaning?

Three other green cleaning methods follow the traditional solvent model but use carbon dioxide, hydrocarbon or silicon-based cleaners instead of perc
What is Perchloroethylene, known casually as perc?
It is an extremely potent dry-cleaning solvent because it dissolves grease and grime without affecting fabrics. According to federal officials, it’s the most commonly used chemical among dry cleaners,
However, there is a cost to using perc. If it is not managed properly and people inhale or come into contact with it on their skin, it may lead to serious health complications. Moreover, it is detrimental to the environment and may contaminate the soil or water if it is not disposed of appropriately.
The substance has the potential to lead to dizziness, reddening of the skin, blistering, and impairments in coordination, memory and reaction time. While there is some disagreement, both the Environmental Protection Agency and International Agency for Research on Cancer have identified this particular chemical as likely to cause cancer.
What is Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Dry Cleaning?
Liquid CO2 dry cleaning is a process that uses liquid and gas forms of carbon dioxide as non-toxic solvents in specialized machines that apply pressure to draw the carbon dioxide through fabrics to remove soil 12. The clothes are placed into a drum that is emptied of air and then inoculated with carbon dioxide in both liquid and gas form to clean the clothes. The liquid CO2 is then recollected into a holding tank for reuse later 1.
